5 Books To Read Before Watching the Movie

Like most book lovers, I enjoy reading the novel before I venture out to see the movie. There are a number of exciting book to movie adaptations occurring this year, and some that have already been released. Regardless, here is a list of books that you should read before the movies come out later this year.

1. The Martian by Andy Weir

This novel follows an astronaut named Mark Watney who travels to Mars with a team from NASA to explore the uncharted territory. As a part of NASA, they are sent to research what Mars has to offer, and discover any new objects not present on Earth. Everything is going well until Mark is left to fend for himself when the connection with Earth is lost due to a turbulent sand storm. With few supplies remaining, Mark must make the most of what he has in an attempt to return to Earth.

Release Date: September, 2015


2.The Room by Emma Donoghue

The Room follows a mother and son named Jack who is five years old. Jack was born in a room, and it is all he has ever known. In the hopes of keeping Jack safe, his mother decides not to tell him about the outside world. Old Nick the owner of this room provides them with food, but is unwilling to let them leave. Trapped in this room, Jack’s mother is desperate for means of escape. If not now, then when? With a glimmer of hope, Jack’s mother forms a plan, that with any luck, will lead to their freedom.

3. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Lou is a 27 years old and has worked at Buttered Buns coffee shop for the past six years, until one day her boss informs her that he is closing down the shop. Lou is devastated! Out of the blue, Lou is contacted by a woman named Camilla who is looking for a caretaker for her quadriplegic son. Will Traynor was once a high-class lawyer that rode his motorcycle to work,  and rock climbed on the weekend. Now, Will is confined to a wheelchair and is unable to move the lower half of his body.This is a story of two people meeting due to unexpected circumstances and making the best out of a tragic situation.

4. Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them by J.K. Rowling

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was created as a representation of the textbook Harry Potter and other students of Hogwarts would have used. This textbook contains a large number of beast and essentially how to find them…but I must confess that magic is most likely involved. With the foreword written by Albus Dumbledore and the doodles drawn by Ron Weasley, this is definitely one worth reading!

5. Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins

The Girl on the Train follows out main character Rachel who has recently been divorced from her husband Tom. Tom left her for another woman named Anna. As a result, Rachel has started to drink heavily to dull the pain. Everyday, Rachel rides the same train, stops at the same signal, and sees the same people. In fact she has even decided to give the couple she sees everyday names. Rachel calls them Jess and Jason. Everything seemed perfect for the couple until one day Rachel notices a pile of clothes abandoned by the train tracks, and Jess has gone missing.
